Well, May was quite the month.  Let’s see how we did, shall we?

1) Self Control – Money

Good, but not great, I’d say.  There was an "extra" payday in May, so I was able to spend some money on much needed warm-weather clothing (although, with how miserable the "summer" has been this year, I probably would have been better off investing in Enron.)  I also bought this blender, which is really expensive, but it’s also what Alton Brown uses on TV, so it has to be awesome.  I also made, as previously mentioned, a completely spur-of-the-moment trip to Utah which cost a few hundred dollars (gas and boarding for Luke) but part of that was paid for by my parents, because they’re freakin’ awesome.

2) Experience New Things

Well, I quit my job in May.  That’s relatively new.  And I designed two new websites – the new MattArmstrongMusic.com and photoblog.mattarmstrongmusic.com.  But other than that, I didn’t do a whole lot new this month.  And I feel okay about that.

3) Lose 20 Pounds

Another epic fail.  In fact, I got .6 pounds away from crossing the forbidden 200-pound mark.  That’s SIX TENTHS of a pound.  I’ve picked boogers bigger than that.  I’m struggling to get (my big, giant, fat ass) back on the wagon, but ever since I got back from Utah, I’ve been completely drained of energy and I end up sleeping almost all day.  The goal is to kick up the exercise more tomorrow after work.  I HAVE to get going.

4) Be More Social – CLOSED

I’ve decided I don’t WANT to be more social.  I like being alone.  I did go to a friend’s housewarming party, and went out to lunch with some friends at my old job…but that’s about it.  I’m going to mark this one closed because I just don’t care so much about this anymore.

5) Write Music – COMPLETED

My original goal for writing music was to get two or three new songs done during the year, which I’ve done.  I’ve been pretty pleased with what I’ve done so far this year, and I’m sure I’ll continue to do some music (I’m aiming to get at least two more audiobooks done this year, so you know that I’ll have to do at LEAST two more music pieces for that).  But since I’ve reached my goal, I’m calling this one good.

6) Get in Shape – CLOSED

I’m closing this one as a duplicate goal of #3.  They’re going to have to go hand in hand.

7) Be More Giving

Fail. Still.  I’m just a selfish SOB, apparently.

8) Get to Bed Earlier

Well, if you discount this last week when I was taking some time off between jobs, then it would be a fail, but I’m doing pretty well otherwise.  I intend to be in bed by 11:30 tonight which, for me, is quite early.  I’m just waiting for my bedspread to get out of the dryer so I can finish making the bed before going to it.

9) Take LOTS of pictures

Win, win, win!  And I really love some of my new photos.  I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but I don’t care.  If you’re into photography, head over to http://photoblog.mattarmstrongmusic.com

10) El Learno…um…anything?

So, originally, I was supposed to learn Spanish. Then I was supposed to learn the programming language C#.  I did learn Drupal (a web content management system) pretty well over the last month.  It’s what my new mattarmstrongmusic.com website is running on.  But I’ve just not been so motivated to take on a new educational project.

It seems that, overall, I’ve lost my enthusiasm for my resolutions this last month.  And, unsurprisingly, I don’t feel that despressed about it.  I’m just not all that concerned with getting up in arms about self-improvement right now.  I’m focusing on a new job, trying to keep myself from swallowing Drano to escape this incessant suicide grey skyscape, and spending money like a Real Housewife of Park Avenue.  And sometimes, I think that’s about all I can ask for.
